Our Story
A Legacy That Began With One Man's Determination
Before the brands. Before the factories. Before our products travelled across continents — there was a beginning.
A beginning built on determination, hard work, an instinct for authentic taste, and the courage to start small.
In 1968, Shri Vishnu Namboothiri began an entrepreneurial journey that would grow across generations, brands and borders.
More than five decades later, that journey continues.
1968 → Today
This is the story of Vishnu Namboothiri Group.
Our Journey
1968
Where the Story Began
Every legacy has a first chapter.
For the Vishnu Namboothiri Group, that chapter began in 1968, when Shri Vishnu Namboothiri embarked on his entrepreneurial journey. There was no global footprint then. No portfolio of recognised food brands. No products travelling thousands of kilometres from Kerala to homes around the world.
There was simply an entrepreneur with the determination to build something of his own. The years that followed would turn that determination into an enduring legacy.
And in 1987, one of its most important chapters began.
1987
A Small Unit. Two Women. And a Bicycle.
The birth of Brahmins Foods
Some beginnings become memorable because of their size. Ours became memorable because of how small it was.
In 1987, Shri Vishnu Namboothiri started Brahmins Foods from a small unit adjacent to his residence with a team of just two female staff members. The products were prepared and packed there. But getting them to customers was another story. Shri Vishnu Namboothiri took that responsibility upon himself.
He travelled through the streets of Thodupuzha on a bicycle, personally distributing the packed products and building the market one customer at a time. The bicycle eventually gave way to a scooter. The scooter gave way to delivery vans. And a small operation beside a home gradually grew into a brand that would travel far beyond Kerala.
From a bicycle in Thodupuzha to homes around the world. It wasn't an overnight success. It was built through consistency, discipline, relationships and the willingness to keep moving forward.
At the heart of Brahmins was a promise that would become inseparable from the brand: “A Vegetarian Promise”.Careful selection of raw materials, stringent manufacturing standards and increasingly mechanised production helped Brahmins earn the confidence of generations of consumers. But behind all those processes remained something much more human: the determination of a founder who believed deeply in what he was building.
1996
Bringing Back a Taste People Remembered
The revival of SREE VISHNU Pickles
Not every product begins in a factory. Some begin at home. Before SREE VISHNU Pickles became a brand, pickles prepared by Shri Vishnu Namboothiri were shared in small quantities with family members, relatives and neighbours. They were more than something served with a meal. They carried the flavours of Kerala's culinary traditions — familiar tastes associated with home, family and occasions shared together. People remembered them. And they wanted them again.
In 1996, Shri Vishnu Namboothiri decided to bring those flavours back to a wider audience. SREE VISHNU Pickles was revived.
The objective was beautifully simple:
- Preserve the authenticity people remembered while making those flavours available to many more families.
- The response transformed those familiar homemade flavours into another important chapter of the Vishnu Namboothiri Group.
SREE VISHNU steadily found its place in the local market, earning consumer trust through authentic, distinctive flavours. What began by being shared with loved ones found its way into countless other homes.
2006
A New Generation Steps Forward
A legacy becomes truly meaningful when the next generation doesn't simply inherit it — they take responsibility for carrying it forward.
In 2006, Sreenath Vishnu, son of founder Shri Vishnu Namboothiri, assumed the role of Executive Director. He entered the business at a time when markets were changing, consumer expectations were evolving and new opportunities were emerging beyond traditional boundaries.
Bringing a strategic and market-oriented approach, Sreenath became an important force in the next phase of the organisation's growth. He was joined by Archana Sreenath as Operations Director. Her focus on operational efficiency and organisational excellence complemented the group's evolving strategic direction. Together, they represented more than a leadership transition. They represented the continuation of an idea across generations.
The values remained rooted.
The vision became bigger.
2007
From Kerala to the World
For two decades, Brahmins had been building trust closer to home. Then came the moment to take that trust beyond India's borders.
In 2007, Brahmins Foods began its export journey. The first international destination was the United Kingdom. What began with one market gradually expanded across the Middle East, Europe, United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore and other international regions.
Products rooted in South Indian culinary traditions were now reaching kitchens thousands of kilometres away. For families living abroad, those products could mean something more than convenience. They could bring back a familiar flavour.
A memory.
A connection to home.
A journey that once began on the streets of Thodupuzha was now crossing continents.
2023
A Defining Turning Point
Every long journey reaches moments when change becomes part of growth. 2023 was one of those moments.
In April 2023, Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting acquired Brahmins, marking Wipro's entry into the packaged foods segment. For Vishnu Namboothiri Group, this was more than a corporate transaction. It marked the completion of an extraordinary chapter — a brand that began from a small unit beside its founder's home had grown into a business significant enough to become part of a major consumer organisation. It also created an opportunity for the Vishnu Namboothiri Group to look forward.
To restructure.
To specialise.
And to begin building the next chapter of its journey. The group began reinventing itself around specialised businesses designed for the changing packaged-food landscape.
The ownership of a brand could change.
The entrepreneurial spirit behind the journey did not.

THEN & NOW
From Thodupuzha to the World

- Products personally distributed on a bicycle.
- A business built one customer at a time.
Now
- Decades of food entrepreneurship.
- Brands recognised across markets.
- Products reaching consumers internationally.
- A new generation carrying the journey forward.
- And a legacy continuing through Vishnu Bhavan and the evolving Vishnu Namboothiri Group.
The People Behind the Years
Companies Don't Create Legacies. People Do.
Look closely at our timeline and the real story isn't simply about brands, factories, products or markets. It is about people.
A founder who was willing to cycle through town to reach his customers.
The first employees who worked in that small unit.
Families who welcomed the products into their kitchens.
Customers who trusted the brands year after year.
Partners who helped take them into new markets.
And a new generation willing to accept the responsibility of carrying the journey forward.
Every one of them became part of this story. Because a legacy isn't created by a single milestone.
It is created by people who keep believing in what they are building.
Some things never changed
The business changed. The scale changed. The methods of production changed. The way products reached customers changed. The markets changed. And the world around us changed.
But some things remained remarkably familiar.
Respect for authentic taste.
Commitment to quality.
The courage to evolve.
And the belief that trust has to be earned — every single day.
More Than Five Decades. One Continuing Story.

THE NEXT CHAPTER
Our Story Is Still Being Written.
When Shri Vishnu Namboothiri began his entrepreneurial journey in 1968, there was no way to know exactly where it would lead.
A small beginning became a business. The business created brands. Those brands entered homes. Those products crossed borders. And one generation's determination became another generation's responsibility.
Today, as Vishnu Namboothiri Group looks toward the future, we carry something more valuable than history. We carry the responsibility of a legacy.
To preserve what deserves to be preserved. To change what needs to change. To take the flavours and values we grew up with into new markets, new products and new generations.
Because after more than five decades, we don't see this as the end of a successful story.
We see it as the beginning of the next one.
Vishnu Namboothiri Group
Rooted in legacy. Growing for generations.
